Dear Mount Prospect Collaborators,
After several months of research and study in Germany this summer, I am planning to visit Iceland for between three and seven days. This will be my first to the island, and I view it as an opportunity to begin a larger Mount Prospect project that already has a long germination. Here are some of the provisional goals for that project, focused on the interpretation of landscape in different artistic and expressive media:
1) A musical work, "song" or suite thereof.
2) A "work of visual art" that is physical but not necessary singular.
3) A critical but accessible essay explaining the project, plus maybe poetry or short creative writing
4) A doc/art video of the process.
5) A website that presents this ensemble of creativity while augmenting it in its own right.
The hope is that these various threads will weave into some gestalt garment (if you permit this inelegant formulation); that these media can synthesize a more profound or revealing experience of landscape in a place with uncommon natural beauties.
I am interested in seeing if anyone would be able to attend a short trip at the end of the summer - approximate dates September 1 - 8, 2011 - and how such a trip might be financially supported.
I heartily encourage you to reply to this open forum with suggestions about funding grants, artist residencies, attire appropriate to the season, etc.
Yours, George Philip
Mount Prospect is an ongoing collaborative project that investigates how language shapes place, or how the way we speak and write expresses our feelings about the places we live, work, play and die. It is an artistic and intellectual exploration of the landscapes that hold sway over our hearts and minds.
